Web page optimisation
Web page optimisation, like vehicle maintenance, needn’t be expensive.

Let’s use a real life example. We are currently giving a 4 year service to a site we built way back, before web page optimisation had been invented!

To keep your running costs down all you need to do is start by looking at the page titles, (the tyres). You can see if your web pages are optimised by doing a search on Google for site and then the domain name.

We’d built a site using good code and so in general terms, since it’s been around a long time it has scored well with the search engines but only for a few key phrases.

Put into Google site:www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk and up will come around 9 pages that have been indexed for the site. Now last week we moved the hosting to our preferred host and as we moved over did some basic web page optimisation.

We did some analysis on the key phrases that would relate to the pages we were moving and for some, changed the name of the page i.e. a page called burstcruch.html we have now renamed hydraulicbursting.html as it gets more searches than crunching and having the full name will help it.

To balance this we have put the crushing first in the page title. The previous page titles were all the same “Technical Concrete Cutting, concrete cutting, drilling contactors”. This has now changed for each page, this one being “concrete crushing uk, hydraulic bursting uk, concrete cutting, diamond drilling”.

Notice how we have removed the initial word “Technical” as this is part of the company name and therefore is not necessary for the page title. Many web pages use the company name, this is simply ego. One page could carry the name, perhaps the contact page, but most people who know you will know how to find you. The titles should be used more strategically.

The other new pages are:

www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/index.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/concretecutting.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/diamonddrillingmachines.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/sawing.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/diamonddrilling.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/roboticdemolition.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/hydraulicbursting.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/thermiclancing.html
www.technicalconcretecutting.co.uk/drillingcontractors.html

Please review the page titles, by clicking on the links above, to see how they have changed from the old standard. This is one way to optimise your web pages. The other is to have a page per key phrase rather trying to share.

This first mission was to simply optimise the current site. Our next mission is to build a brand new site that focuses on one of their key skills and maximises their business opportunities. Which skill... the one most people are searching for obviously!
